Michael Epps was born in New York City. Michael’s family moved to Englewood, NJ, where he spent all of his formative years.

     He graduated from Dwight Morrow H.S. before heading off to Connecticut where he attended Western Connecticut State University.  Michael played football at WestConn and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History.

     Michael joined the Waterbury Police Department in 1997.  He was assigned to the patrol division until 2006 when he was promoted to Sergeant.  He was the supervisor assigned to Police Activity League for 2 ½ years.  In 2010 Michael returned to the patrol division when he was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant.  Michael is currently assigned to the Professional Standards/Internal Affairs Division.

     Throughout his 19yr. career Michael has been a bicycle patrol officer, Baton and Police Mountain Bike Instructor, Field Training Officer and a member of the Waterbury Emergency Response Team.  He is the recipient of the Chief’s Award and received a unit citation in2006 as a member of the Waterbury Emergency Response Team as well as being named Police Officer of the Year in 2008.  He is a recent graduate of the 257th F.B.I. National Academy held in Quantico, VA.

     Michael is fraternally bound to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Goodwill Lodge of Elks #1325 and a Past Master of Kellogg Lodge #5 P.H.A.  He is a member of Zion Baptist Church in Waterbury, CT and a proud father to his son, Jaiden.

     Michael enjoys the game of golf and everything that goes with it, from the scenic courses to the aroma of a good ‘stoagie’.  Michael still regrets the fact he did not heed the advice of his college roommate to take up the game of golf 10 years sooner.
